試験片は密閉されたチャンバーに入れられ、周囲のチャンバー温度でサンプルに落ちる合成海水溶液の間接スプレーにさらされます。 ミスト(塩水噴霧)は、50分間隔で10分間の8つの期間、毎日生産され、週末にはスプレーは塗布されません。
このDEF STAN 1053試験は、「断続的」塩水噴霧試験とも呼ばれる。
