Bentley Cars order another Ascott Cyclic Corrosion Test (CCT) Chamber

The prestigious luxury car manufacturer; Bentley Motor Cars (now part of the VW/Audi Group), has recently placed an order for their third Ascott CCT chamber, to further enhance the testing capabilities of their manufacturing facility in Crewe, England. This order is for one of the latest generation of Ascott CC1000xp chambers. When fitted with appropriate optional accessories, these chambers are capable of achieving the demanding requirements of VW/Audi cyclic corrosion test; P-VW 1210.

P-VW 1210 specifies a test method to determine the corrosion resistance of automotive bodies, assemblies and components. It is cyclic in nature, i.e. test specimens are exposed to changing climates over time, and therefore better represents the type of corrosive conditions that can occur naturally.

Specifically, test specimens are placed in an enclosed chamber and exposed to a changing climate that comprises of the following 3 part repeating cycle. 4.0 hours exposure to salt spray according to DIN 50 021-SS. This is followed by 4.0 hours exposure to an ambient climate according to DIN 50 014-23/50-2. This is followed by 16.0 hours exposure to a condensing water climate according to DIN 50 017-KK. The number of cycle repeats and therefore the test duration is variable.
